Opening of the next ETIA Talks series with a talk about “What a disastrous worls it is…”

The first ETIAtalks panel discussioin of this year’s series on “Natural Disaster Prevention” will take place on Friday, October 13, at 7.00pm, at the Festsaal of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, Favoritenstraße 15a, 1040 Wien.

ETIAtalks serves as a forum to explore and discuss issues of current relevance in the fields of the environment, energy, climate change and related technologies on national, regional and international scales. In this sense, ETIAtalks seeks to connect leading scholars and practitioners across multiple sectors and to provide a dynamic and interactive platform.
Due to its special topography, no region in Austria is not effected by avalanches, floods, earthquakes, storms, droughts and extreme weather, occurring on an increasing level. Next to regional damages, approximately every three years a natural catastrophe causes insured damages of more than 200 Million Euros, with an increasing tendency. Furthermore, the Alps experienced double of the 1°C global climate warming. Against the background of climate change and global warming it is therefore highly necessary to discuss how to best take measures to prevent such natural catastrophes from happening, through precise climate models and disaster control organization.
Therefore this first panel discussion on "Natural Disaster Prevention" should highlight Austria`s efforts towards disaster control and natural disaster prevention in the light of climate change on the occasion of the International Day on Natural Disaster Prevention.
Panel discussion with:
•    Priv. Doz. Dr. Mag. Christoph Matulla
Senior Scientist, Division Climate, ZAMG - Meteorological Service of Austria; Department of Water, Atmosphere, Environment, University of Natural Resources Vienna
